Ganapathi Bappa

'Ganesh Chaturthi' is one of the great and famous festival in India; Particularly in Mumbai , South Inida and specially in Hyderabad. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh, son of Lord Shankar and Goddess Parvati. This festival comes on the 4th day of Bhadrapada Shukla-paksh of Hindu calender.

This year the movement is like that not to immerse the Idols in the Hussain-Sagar due to the pollution problems, but a final court decision makes all the devotees made happy that this time they can go ahed! The Ganesh Idols are made up of plaster of paris (POP) which remains in water up to 5 days harming the water in the sagar. So, groups are advised to make idols from traditional clay, which decomposes in two hours, instead of cheaper plaster of Paris.

Interestingly I've also seen some posters saying that to use the clay made idols, and not to use the coloured idols. This is really a good idea to make the people aware of the pollution due the idols. Also I have heard a news saying that most pople used caly made idols; this shows the public is also getting awareness on ganesh idols. I have also brought a clay made ganesh, wow! But the trick I applied was that the POP Idols costs high and the Idiol will be small, but you'll get a big clay idol with less price!! So, I opted to purchase the Bigger Ganesh! :-)

Finally, If I dont talk about Khairatabad-Ganesh, this article is not complete. This year the Huge Ganesh is about 40ft, while it was 45ft last year. The Idol so good this time, Made with 50 kg of butter. This picture you see here is the one setup this year!
